Navigators' Estimated Position at 6 pm, 08/17/99: 13 deg 00 m S, 2 miles N of the new reference course line. (Actual Position from GPS: 13 deg 11 m S, 134 deg 39 m W)

Navigators' Estimated Position at 6am, 08/18/99: 13 deg 30 m S, 2 miles N of the new reference course line. (Actual Position from GPS: 14 deg 10 m S, 132 deg 51 m W)

NOTE: Since the reference course is from E to W the navigator is using N or S of the reference course line.

Est speed 4.5 knots (under tow); Actual speed is 7 kts.

Miles est. made in the last 24 hrs: 90miles

Current Heading: 'Aina Malanai (ESE)

Strategy for Next 24 hrs: maintain ESE heading until second course line reached (130 degrees 30 minutes W), then turn haka malanai (S by E) and head for Pitcairn.

Winds- Hikina @ 5 kts

Swells-La Malanai (E by S) @ 2ft, rolling swells not steep

Stratocumulus cloud cover @ 15%

Changes in 24hrs- wind changed direction and only stratos clouds visible

Weather prediction: remain the same, but wind may increase.

Steering: Sirius, Hokule'a (Arcturus); Moon visible

Lat. stars: shedir in cassiopeia @ 19deg in meridian

Crew Activities: pumped hulls; hulls very dry.

Health of crew: Cat is sick with chills, everyone else is getting better. (But Cat wrote a nice piece for the advertiser and e-mailed it in....so she's not feeling that bad!)
