'A / Booby
Boobies are large birds that plunge-dive for fish, including mackerel
scads, flying fish, goatfish, and dolphinfish. They often feed with other
birds; fishermen look for these flocks to find schools of small fish which
attract large fish. Boobies are distributed throughout the subtropical and
tropical waters of the world's oceans and are capable of flying great distances.
Young birds are nomadic; nesting adults return to home islands in the afternoon
or at night. Boobies often follow vessels at sea; they rest on floating
debris and have been seen riding on the backs of turtles. Types of boobies
include Masked, Brown, Red-footed (pictured right).
