Voyaging Experience
Current: Polynesian Voyaging Society co-director for the 1999-2000 Rapa Nui voyage, with Bruce Blankenfeld.
1995 - co-navigated and captained Hawai'iloa on its maiden voyage with Bruce Blankenfeld from Hawai'i to Tahiti; solo navigated and captained Hokule'a from Marquesas to Hawai'i; captained Hawai'iloa from Seattle to Vancouver, BC, and Hokule'a from San Francisco to Long Beach.
1993-95 - Polynesian Voyaging Society program assistant to Nainoa Thompson.
1992 - co-navigated Hokule'a from Hawai'i to Tahiti with Shorty Bertelmann; solo navigated Hokule'a from Tahiti to the Cook Islands.
1985-87 - served as an assistant navigator and apprentice to Nainoa Thompson during of the Voyage of Rediscovery: 1985-Tahiti to Cook Islands to New Zealand; New Zealand to Tonga to Samoa to Cook Islands to Tahiti; Tahiti to Rangiroa to Hawai'i; navigated and captained sail from Tahiti to Rangiroa.
1980 - sailed on first long voyage as crew and apprentice navigator, Hawai'i to Tahiti.
1978 - alternate for Hawai'i to Tahiti voyage; worked on Hokule'a reconstruction after swamping.
1975 - helped with construction of the Mo'olele, 42' double hulled coastal
sailing canoe; sailed on Hokule'a for the first time.
