One Ocean, One People
2007 Voyage to Micronesia and Japan
A Celebration of Pacific Voyaging, Cultures, and Islands

Hokule‘a left Honolulu, O‘ahu, on January 11 to join Alingano Maisu in Kawaihae, Hawai‘i. The two canoes sailed for Satawal in Micronesia to deliver Alingano Maisu as a gift to navigator-teacher Mau Piailug. They departed from Kawaihae on January 19; they returned to Kealakekua Bay for repairs on a cracked steering paddle on January 20; they departed again from Kealakekua Bay on January 23, for Majuro; sighted Johnston Atoll on Feb. 5, 804 miles S by W of Kawaihae; and continued on to Majuro, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Satawal, Woleai, Ulithi, Yap, and Palau. After returning to Yap, Hokule'a left for Okinawa Japan on April 11 and arrived April 22. In Japan, Hokule'a stopped in Naze, Amami; Uto, Kumamoto; Nomozaki and Nagasaki; Fukuoka, Shinmji, Iwaijima, Oshima, Miyajima, Hiroshima, Uwajima, Muroto, Miura, and Kamakura before arriving in Yokohama on June 8. Hokule'a was shipped back to Hawai'i on June 21 by NYK, arriving in Honolulu on July 1. For a Weblog with reports, photos, and maps, see 2007 Voyage Weblog.
